A few small draws on the lower portion of the route provide water, but carry extra water for dogs for the upper miles. |

Some black flies at the 2,500-foot level. None above, very few below. |

| Lost and Found: |
Half of a set of crampons. I know who lost them, too, one of the French Canadians I met coming down the trail as we were going up. Must've fallen off her pack. |

Just to add a note following Georg's report of the same hike on the same day: my two dogs, Tuckerman and Polly, and I topped the summits a couple of hours after Georg and his dogs had, and the snow had softened considerably in the intervening time. Postholing was sometimes an issue even with snowshoes. I put on the shows at about the 3,250-foot elevation and was glad I did. Beautiful warm weather, the sky brushed with swirls of cirrus clouds, and not a breath of wind. View of the Presis from the summit of Starr King was spectacular. |
