We had planned to hike this with friends on Sunday. The nasty weather changed our minds. The storm Sunday night dumped anywhere from a quarter inch of ice at the base to 3/4-1" near the summit. Everything was coated and glistening. It was like hiking in a crystal forest. Down low was slushy with a light crust. The ice thickened until around halfway where it was basically floe ice. We did it in micro spikes with care, but crampons wouldn't be overkill. Visibility was only about a hundred feet, but Mom Nature's ice sculptures more than compensated for it. A great little adventure with Bec. |
