First mile or so had been packed out not long ago. After that it was unconsolidated. Sunk in anywhere from three inches to my knees, but was mostly able to stay on top. Route finding was a challenge with such a deep snowpack. Spent a good part of the day pushing through branches. Many of the blazes were at snow level or buried. Steve Smith mentioned that Wolf used to be on the 52 with a view list before it grew in. With the deep snowpack the view was spectacular and gave a unique perspective on everything from the Kinsmans and Franconia and well over to the more southerly 4Ks. Wish it had been clearer. Even with snowshoes I made a mess of the trail. Without shoes this hike would have been impossible. A great afternoon out on trail new to me. |
