Comments
Comments: I hiked in on the Hancock Notch trail. The monorail is solid but narrow. I wore snowshoes from start to finish. I started my bushwack at the intersection with Cedar Brook trail. With yesterday's rain and the cold temps, the snow was perfect for bushwacking. I broke through occasionally, but basically could walk anywhere with no problems. The woods were fairly open with intermittent bands of thick spruce. I got up on the ridge and followed it to what I thought was the high point. Finding no sign of the cannister I continued over to South through nice open woods until just before the summit. Looking back I realized that I simply had not continued far enough along the ridge of Huntington. I headed back and walked right up to the cannister. I descended pretty much due North into the notch and picked up the trail about a mile east of Cedar Brook trail. The snow conditions made for a relatively easy day of it. Skies cleared to brilliant blue later in the afternoon. The warm weather early in the week must have woken one of our ursine friends. I'm sure it was confused as to where the Spring temps had gone. Tracks followed the trail briefly then forked off. Great afternoon hike.
