Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Owl's Head, NH
Trails
Trails: Lincoln Woods Trail, Franconia Brook Trail, Lincoln Brook Trail, Owls Head Path, bushwhack, Franconia Falls Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, May 3, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at Lincoln Woods was easy with plenty of space available. The Ranger was in when we checked in, but not when we left.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Ice Axe
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: This was where we had extensive difficulty! The streams (Lincoln Brook and Franconia Brook) were deep, swift and incredibly difficult to cross. For this reason, we bushwacked the return crossing of Lincoln Brook ~ it was simply too deep and swift to safely cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No signs or blazes, but we are very grateful for the carin and glove left to mark the trail head for the Owl Slide. The carin to mark the summit of Owls Head is in place, but consists of four separate rocks. There is no sign at the summit, although the nail where it hung is still in the tree.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We did not see any dogs, but we did find a bear paw print in the snow.
Bugs
Bugs: I counted two mosquitoes, two spiders and a fly.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: My camera was lost on the trail. I would be very grateful if it could be found and returned. Our record of the summit is on the camera, along with some really nice photos of the hike. If you find it, please let me know. Thanks!

Comments
Comments: Lincoln Wood to Franconia Brook to Lincoln Brook to Owl SlideTrail. Return was a bushwack from Lincoln Brook to Franconia Falls

This was a two day trip, with a night spent in the wonderful Pemigawasset Wilderness. I'd do it again, and again!
