| Comments: |
This 10+ mile section was mostly dry and in good shape. Some rugged areas, but generally decent footing and plenty of views.
We followed the Wapack over Burton and Holt Peaks (the former had good directional views near the summit, while the latter had one or two old viewpoints we located, as well as plenty further up the ridge).
When we reached the top of the old ski area, we explored some of the old ski trails, zigzagging the Wapack Trail. We then hopped back onto the Wapack Trail over Pack and into the col.
Ascending North Pack, we took the cliff trail, then climbed directly up the scree field below the cliffs. It looked like there was one place we could probably free climb up to the top of the cliffs, but with poles and daypacks, it seemed less than appealing, so we worked our way around and then to the top of the cliffs (and back to the trail). Fantastic views from the top of the cliffs. |
