|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The road to the summer parking lot is dry and can be negotiated with car. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable) |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
none |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail through the hardwoods is dry. On the long slab from the hardwoods the ice bulge below and above the spring is formidable and one would use traction there, or, bypass it by going uphill into the woods as boot tracks show many hikers had done. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Met one dog who enjoyed it. Water, however is scarce |
|
| Bugs: |
Will be out soon |

| Comments: |
I carried my snowshoes until I met Steve Moore, a Grid finisher with some other lists to finish, who said they are not needed but microspikes would be helpful. So I ditched my snowshoes before entering the long slab. The only difficult section was around the spring where traction would be really helpful. Even going through the woods above the trail had ice from water coming out of the slope. The other icy section are very short and are easily bypassed. Hardly any snow left between Starr King and Waumbek.
The sudden heat today felt a bit uncomfortable and when back at the car bugs began to be a bother. |
