Comments
Comments: There was not much snow or ice on the trails today. I never used traction. There were a few snow spots on the Gulfside and on Jefferson Loop which were solid enough to avoid postholing. One small snow field on the Gulside Trail just downhill from the junction with the Jefferson Loop trail requires moderate care not to slip downhill. Most of the trails above tree line are bare rock surfaces. The wet rocks and roots on descent on the Randolph Path were slippery. Some running water on the trails but not a real problem.
Saw John, Erica, and Pepper today. Saw two hikers on a Presidential traverse. Had many good conversation with other hikers. Many Canadians out today on their holiday weekend. The Madison Spring Hut is still closed. The Mt Washington Auto Road had vehicles and the cog railway was running.
Painted Trillium, Red Trillium, Trout Lily, Spring Beauties, and Hobblebush in bloom at the lower elevation. No alpine flowers in bloom. Saw a gilder soaring near Mt Washington.
