Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Shaker Farm Road, the approach road to the trail head, is fine up to the last driveway. After that it turns to a mess. Passable, but low clearance vehicles should take it easy. The parking lot had no one else there when I arrived around 8 AM, and about 5 cars when I got back around noon. As I was fixin' to leave two girls pulled into the parking lot and they got out of the car and headed up the trail with loud music blaring from a backpack. I don't get it.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only a few very minor crossings. All went well except for the crossing of the mossy brook that somebody named "Mossy Brook." While focusing on keeping my footing on the moss I almost tore my eye out on a stub branch sticking out of a spruce tree. I'm OK.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is one spruce blowdown on the Marlboro Trail, about a half hour from the parking lot. It is turning into a walkaround although you could duck under it if you wanted to. Once again I neglected to bring my Sven Saw, as I could have taken care of it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not allowed.
Bugs
Bugs: A few mosquitoes in the parking lot when I got there. A few not-hungry-yet black flies on the lower parts of the trail, and also in the parking lot when I got back.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There is an Albert Einstein T-shirt with the sleeves missing hanging on a tree on the Marlboro Trail, just before the Marion trail. I also found some kind of headband which I left on top of the trail register box.

Comments
Comments: After the summit of Monadnock I headed over to Monte Rosa. Nice views all day, didn't start sprinkling until I was heading home. I saw only 11 people (5 on the summit) all day, including the two aforementioned noise polluters in the parking lot.
