Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Counted over 51 water crossings before reaching the Shoal Pond Trail. Upon reaching Stillwater Jct. we didn't even try to keep our feet dry. Water running high enough to make major brook crossings not rock hop-able. Splashing is fun.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cedar Brook and Wilderness are in excellent condition. Shoal Pond Trail has many stepable blowdowns, one every 50 feet and what is left of bog bridges are rotting away or missing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs that like water will love this hike
Bugs
Bugs: ha ha it was windy and the bugs had a tough time getting to us.

Comments
Comments: A nice walk in the woods today. If you want to travel over the Shoal Pond Trail do it soon because Mother Nature and high waters are making it harder. From Stillwater Jct. to Shoal Pond the trail is either nearly grown in or underwater. Bog bridges are rotting away and I experienced one breaking in half right under my feet. BUT the trail is lovely, beautiful and wonderful and you should go out here and hike it. From the pond to the AT new bog bridges and trail work has been recently performed. The cascading waters, views to Carrigain and more are grand and we didn't see anyone until we reached Shoal Pond! Foot bed is well worn and in key places old blazes were still to be seen on trees or scars from silly removal attempts made it easy to follow the trails. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day. Three cheers for the trail tenders that made Cedar Brook, Wilderness, Carrigain Notch(quick out and back to Desolation Trailhead), Ethan Pond and Zealand Trails clear and nice, thank you.
