|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Waded the first crossing - knee deep. The girls swam in it on the return trip. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Many large step-over blowdowns on Sawyer Pond Trail section. Two large blowdowns on Brunel Trail between Sawyer Pond Trail and dirt road walk. Most of Brunel Trail between the dirt road and the Tremont summit needs brushing. Inexperienced hikers might get lost if they're not careful. Experienced hiker eyes should be able to follow the footbed well enough. Blazes exist, but they're sometimes faded.
There are no signs when Brunel Trail pops out into the dirt road. Take a right (on the way up) and walk the road. There will eventually be a trailsign on the left taking you back into the woods. |

| Bugs: |
We were swarmed by all things that buzz and fly. This was the second worst buggy hike we've ever been on. Very difficult to enjoy the trail. DEET was ineffective. I was bitten multiple times through my clothes. We spent most of our hike waving our arms about our heads. |

| Comments: |
Pleasant woods, but my advice is to save it for the fall when the bugs aren't out in force. They were truly awful today.
Last bit up Tremont is STEEP and eroded.
Gorgeous views on Tremont. We were less impressed with the views from Owl's Cliff.
Saw a moose on the dirt road on the way back.
MANY THANKS to Cumulus for sharing this hike with us today. It was great to hike with him again.
There will be a TR on my blog late this evening. |
