Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room at the parking area. The access road has a few dips that require a passenger car to slow down, but nothing serious.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: In May these streams were either tricky or not worth the risk; now they are easy rock hops for me, and splendid sip n dips for Pepper.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The mess of blowdowns on Bee Line around its intersections with the Bee Line Cutoff and Bolles have been cleared. Based on the trail reports I'd say great job Cooperhill. There were a few new blowdowns since our May visits to these trails. I took out a modest multi-stem on Bolles, another on Bee Line and several on Old Paugus including a couple that were new to the previously cleared massive blowdown area. There is one new multi small branch walk around blowdown well below that mess that I didn't take out given the approaching rain. Middle Bee Line could use a few waterbars and its upper section some brushing, but it was easy to follow and had a lot of duff for a footbed. I scraped open a few waterbars on Old Paugus with my pole baskets but I also mostly liked its footbed from Bee Line on down. These trails aren't like the well painted, wide, eroding and crowded trails to the popular 4K peaks, but I found them easy to follow, and much kinder to the feet/paws.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper likes the trails in this area; there are so many brooks to sip n dip in, we never see anybody so he's free to be he, the pawbeds are soft and he's mostly shaded from the direct rays of the sun.

Comments: Bolles, Bickford (Bolles to Brook), Bee Line (Bolles to Old Paugus), Old Paugus, Whitin Brook (to Rock Cave)
A look at the radar this morning suggested we could sneak this hike in before the main line of rain hit even as it was briefly showering outside. It was partly sunny to start the hike after the long drive. We would have made it out dry except for some blowdown removal; the rain caught us a 5 minute run from the car. Pepper enjoyed the run. He's finished hiking all the trails in this area at least once now, but we sure like their solitude and streams.
