Park at south pond. The gate is open from 10:00A to 8:00p (I had planned to get a late start anyway). The road walk is a mile each way if the gate is closed. There is a five dollar fee, but they accepted my annual pass and did not charge me. |

From Rogers Ledge I was very excited by the sight of square mtn through the trees. I headed back down from Rogers on the KRT to a flat area where the trail curves west. I bushwhacked east towards square, having to cut around some swampy areas. The woods were flat and open, untill I got to the west slope where things got a little thick, but not too bad. What a peak! This is a new favorit of mine! For the trip back I cut harder north to hit the KRT lower.
I then took Devil's Hopyard trail. It was very nice and chilly in the hopyard, nice spot. I bushwhacked north from the end of the trail towards mill. The going was steep and dangerous. I don't recomnmend this start point. Kind of thick heading up Mill, but all straight forward. Very cool fire tower remains at the top. Headed east and hit the parking area with relativer ease.
To end the day I locked my keys in the trunck and swam in South Pond while waiting for AAA. |
