Comments
Comments: Trails were surprisingly dry after the rain last night. The accessible Gregg Trail has numerous views. The Shannon Trail continues through a logged area after the viewing platform on the Gregg Trail. This logged area was long and might be tough to follow in winter if unbroken, as the only markings was the occasional pink ribbon on vegetation less than a foot off the ground. Views to monadnock and pack monadnocks from that open logged area. Lots of yellow jackets/wasps in the goldenrod.

I found the fire tower footings, fairly close to the communications towers in the scrub, as well as a milk snake. The footing are west of the tower. It was a little confusing at first. Once at the picnic table at the viewpoint at the top of the Shannon trail, there is a feint path to the left of the sign for "upper link" that goes past blueberry bushes, passes a bootleg camp fire ring, and then some yellow blazes appear the right of that. This will get you to the communications tower, you then have to head west. I found the footings by taking a third path along the stonewall by the picnic table, then took a right on a blazed trail, then bushwacked up through the ledgy area which brought me to the tower footings before hitting the communications tower.

Nice area!
