Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Lots of tiny streams. One rock hop across the Swift River (easy for 5 ft and over, slightly challenging for 4"11 and under.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Very Good! Evidence that someone had just cleared away a blowdown. Signage is good as well. Wonderful bridge through the open wetlands.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw none. Should be a good one for dogs; no difficult climbs and there is water. Be very careful, though, there are bears here!
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitoes, but they preferred Prema to me!

Comments
Comments: Please note that this is Sawyer RIVER trail, not Sawyer Pond trail(but if you make it to the parking lot you can pick up the Sawyer Pond trail if you want). This was a nice gentle walk, flat for about 90%. We started from the Kanc end of it and went as far as the logging road near the other end. We did not complete the whole trail, as the rain started to get very heavy and it was late in the afternoon. The first few minutes are a destination in their own right, there is a beautiful cascade with many flat ledges. After a lovely woods walk, there are open meadows and wetlands. There were also plenty of piles on the trail with the remnants of berries inside! We heard a crashing noise among the trees, Prema saw a large dark form running away quickly. So we saw no other hikers and no dogs, just a tiny bit of a shy bear. After the intersection of the Hancock Notch trail, the trail runs along the Sawyer River, where one can see a lot of storm damage. There was already a lot of fall color (brilliant scarlet maples) near the wetlands (just what you want to see the last day of August), this would make a good foliage hike in days to come.
