Sunday, August 31, 2014 |
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lots of parking at the big new oval at the end of Randolph Hill Road, which has been extended. Carlton Notch Trail now has its own Trailhead, 150 yards before you reach that oval, on the left side of the dirt road as you are driving in. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
A couple of easy rock-hops. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Underhill Trail and Four Soldiers Path have gotten some recent attention from the RMC and will be getting a lot more, judging from numerous flags located in particular at the many muddy sections. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I met no one on this 10-mile loop, but the poor weather may have been a factor. Good for dogs who like mud. |
| Bugs: |
None. |
| Lost and Found: |
| Comments: |
The RMC has posted an interesting brochure on the Four Soldiers Path on its website, explaining geology, history, flora and fauna. That's good, because the Path and this loop lack overt drama. |
