| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
plenty of parking at Bennett Street Trailhead - only a few small school buses there. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossing north of big beaver pond on Guinea Pond Trail was on logs above deep muddy water - I didn't have poles but it was a little dicey. Other crossings all rock-hoppable. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Top of Algonquin Trail is very brushy with several large blowdowns (that had established herd paths) - that trail corridor seems fit for short people - I had to crouch much of the way. Also, once again, I lost the Black Mountain Pond Trail at the Black Mountain Pond, near the tent sites - markings are scarce and there are many herd paths. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
lots of water even close to the ridge on the Bennett Street Trail |
|
| Bugs: |
a few near the water |

| Comments: |
Excellent day! I jogged most of the flats. I did a nice loop on familiar trails: Bennett Street to Sandwich Dome, then the Algonquin Trail to the Black Mountain Trail (to the pond) and down to Guinea Pond Trail. From there, I took the Flat Mountain Pond trail up to its junction with Bennett Street Trail on the way to the big horseshoe curve. Turned around a little ways towards the horseshoe curve.
On the way back, I swam in what I believe were the "Great Falls" on the Bennett Street Trail - awesome!!!
About 16 miles and only saw one group on the ledges above Black Mountain Pond. |
