Comments
Comments: Winter has begun in the high peaks!

Down low, the snow was minimal (fallen leaves were still visible). As I approached Durand Ridge, the snow got slightly deeper and the trail got steeper, so on went the spikes; I kept them on until I was almost back at Appalachia.

Once above treeline on Durand Ridge, the snow got significantly deeper, with one to two foot deep snow drifts every now and then. Once past the Gulfside Trail junction, the last 1/2 mile was a VERY slow-going rock-hop over 3 to 5 inches of snow and rime ice- I was on all fours at times to compensate for my lack of trekking poles. Eventually, I made it, and the top was in the clear with excellent views, as well as frigid temperatures and approx. 50 MPH winds.

Valley Way, at least in the upper part, had more snow than Air Line, and it wasn't packed very well, which made traction interesting. Once past the hairy parts, I was back to Appalachia in no time.

Awesome day in the winter-like Northern Presis!
