The biting bugs were not too bad on the trail itself. Perhaps that's because they all congregated at the summit where they were out in full force! |

About a week ago, the Forest Service had a chainsaw crew on this trail and they did an awesome job of removing numerous huge blowdowns. And yesterday, I spend several hours brushing out the trail. So, at this particular moment in time, the trail is probably in the best shape it has been for quite awhile. Prior to my adoption of this trail, there were several years when little or no maintenance was done due to a misunderstanding as to who was responsible for maintenance of this trail.
Although the trail is in pretty good shape, please don't be disappointed to find a few damp areas (as can be found on most trails in the Whites).
Also, high up on the trail, you will still come across a few large blowdowns which have been there for years. However, they are very easy to walk under, and barely require stooping. Although this trail does not pass through an area which is officially designated as "wilderness", the upper portion of this trail is rough & tumble, and it certainly has a "wilderness" feel to it. So, as I view it, a very minor inconvenience of having to slightly stoop under a couple of blowdowns is totally in character with the surroundings!:)
