| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at Lyme Kiln which can hold a modest number of cars. The Black Mountain trail access road looked rough for a car. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow - Unpacked Powder |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Rock steps across a couple of small shallow drainages. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are in good shape and well signed. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Yesterday I put Vaseline on his paws and it helped keep them free from snowballs. Under similar snow conditions today I forgot to bring it, and despite getting his feet wet he had no issues at all even on the unpacked Black Mtn trail section. It was just a little warmer perhaps. |

| Lost and Found: |
We found a very nice Flexi dog leash. It is in excellent condition and I'll be happy to leave it someplace to be picked up, or find another way to return it. Please email me with a short description. |

We went up the splendid Chippewa trail, after a side trip to the Lyme Kilns, down Black Mtn, then back. We saw no one today; yesterday Chippewa must have had at least a few hikers, while Black Mtn had none. Spikes could have been used on Black Mtn in either direction, since it had enough unpacked snow to undercut traction and it lacked ledges. Chippewa's numerous ledges were clear enough that no spikes were needed today but after a snowstorm I would be sure to carry them. The great views were a bit dulled by the gray clouds on the way up, and somewhat blocked by windy snow flurries on the way back. Pepper had a fun weekend on the trails. |
