Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossing the Hancock Branch was very tough. It is a long crossing. The spot I picked involved lots of submerged rock hops and a couple of leaps that could have ended very poorly. Don't underestimate this. For the way back, I was much safer as I accepted getting wet being less than 0.1 from the car.

Comments
Comments: Started off by scouting the crossing. When I deem too high, I headed to Loon. I intended to pay 20 to go up the North Peak and take that route to Scar. Well they told me that they only allow foot travel to the south peak (not sure how strict they are), so I went back and did the Kanc route after all. See my note on the crossing--it was tough.

Other than the crossing, this was a steal for a solo hike in winter. I took a fairly direct route up the spine that comes right from the highpoint and goes down southeast. Got a little too close to the west drainage and had to climb out. Snow on the ground was firm and perfect for snowshoeing. No snow in the trees. The woods were mostly open with some thicker sections. This route took me right to the highpoint with ease. The snow was so firm in places, that it was hard to follow my track out, so I did so off and on.
