I hadn't done this hike in a long time. I had forgotten how beautiful the views are.
The trail is VERY icy and traction is a must! We saw a few people turn back who were not prepared to deal with the ice. No need for snowshoes, but crampons/spikes are necessary.
This is a great hike, with two nice summits and the unbelievable ledges. It was cold today. About 17 degrees when we set out, and only 5 degrees (not including the wind) at the first summit. Nevertheless, completely worth it - if you have the right gear to deal with the icy ledges. Overall, a great day on the trail and a great way to close out 2014. |
