trail starts up through the logging and beyond that i found some prior tracks which turned up towards tate at which point i was on my own. depths of snow varied a lot in the first mile or so with up to 6-8 inches over occasionally bony ground. above the main crossing of fields brook the depths began to increase with more of a base underneath. more like 8-12 on the steep ascent to black snout trail. at this junction i bushwhacked straight ahead intersecting the black snout trail just before its junction with high ridge trail. around a foot or more of new snow up high. high ridge trail is snowmobile packed to the summit. used the same route on descent.
nice day to hike shaw. slept in and let temps warm up and almost regretted it as the south facing slopes had some sweaty climbing. felt like early season down low with the new snow over rock and bare ground. real nice snowshoeing up high though. views were fantastic.
