Beautiful day for a Presi hike. Got to Marshfield at noon and found 3 cars in the lot. Trail nicely broken out (met four hikers at the hut coming down who had broken trail all the way up.... thanks, guys)! Still a bit unconsolidated, so snowshoes were a must. At treeline, snow was a hard styrofoam consistency, so switched to crampons for the trip up Monroe (Micros would have likely been fine, but with the big flows near the hut, wanted to play with the crampons)! Up Monroe, over to Little Monroe, then around on the Crawford Path back to the hut. Trails not needed up above.... snow is hard enough you can just take the best line up. Back up Monroe to wait for sunset, but the clouds rolled in and the wind became a bit much... difficult to stand still on the summit. Headed back down to watch the sun fizzle out over the hut, then back down Ammo to reach the car before needing the headlamp. |
