| Water Crossing Notes: |
Near the trailhead, the original trail crosses a brook that's been recently dammed by beavers. The resulting muddy, marshy area is crossable on logs, but there's a herd path to the left that's easier. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
At about the half-mile mark from the trailhead the trail parallels a small stream. This is the only moving water on the route, so it's probably best to carry extra water for dogs. |

| Comments: |
On weekends this short but scenic (and steep in places) route can be crowded with novice hikers. Expect a lot of questions about where the actual summit is (there are at least two false summits that fool first-timers). This hike is well worth the crowds, however, on a clear day like yesterday: the views from the summit were stunning, extending unbroken from Franconia Ridge in the east far into Vermont in the west, with the great backbone of Moosilauke taking stage center. |
