| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
This is always a big issue. Best access to the trailhead in the spring is to take Lime Kiln Road from Rte. 116, not from 25. A much shorter (1.8 mi) trip on dirt. Road was fine today, lot plowed. Room for 2 cars, maybe three if people are careful, but there are other spots plowed out along the road nearby that can be used. Road will soon be spring soup. |

Black Mountain, Benton NH
Chippewa Trail, with a look down the Black Mtn. Trail
A BEAUTIFUL day! One of the best so far this year. Had the whole mountain to myself. The trail is pretty well packed down at the moment, though the afternoon's warm temps were softening things as I came down. Some post-holing in random places -- a lot more coming in the near future, I fear. Chippewa seems to be the trail of choice -- took a look at the Black Mountain Trail and walked down about a hundred feet or so from the jct just shy of the summit. Only one set of boot prints on that path, left some time ago -- post-holing every step of the way. Couldn't have been fun. Light traction and poles really helped today, going both ways. |
