Comments
Comments: Beautiful spring snowshoeing weather. Headed up the backside (northern edge) of Eagle Cliff ridge from the Gallen parking circle at the northern end of Franconia Notch. Good packed trails from backcountry skiiers head up to a large glade about a third of a mile in. From there, it was a good slog through deep partially-consolidated powder to the summit of Watcher Peak, the fourth knob along the ridge. From there, headed directly up and over the ridge to the summit of 3400-foot Eagle Cliff. Snow is 3-4' deep in the woods and over 4' deep along the ridge... increased snowpack led to great views in many directions. Lots of spruce traps on the ridge, but all manageable. Bushwhack route is nicely tracked out now by several people, so should be easy to follow to several notable locations seldom seen by the hiking community.
