| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Fairly good-sized blowdown (large fir diagonally across the path) requires a work-around about a third of the way up. Bottom third of the trail is quite muddy -- water running down the center for a while. I can see why many people argue that hiking at this time really increases erosion and I think this is my last outing until things firm up. |

Nice afternoon hike, even with a brief shower on the descent. Snowline begins as you enter the fir forest below the ledge and the snow's largely with you from then on, though ledges and summit are bare. We carried snowshoes but didn't need them. One of us wore light traction from the ledge on (and back down); the other didn't. Largely a matter of personal confidence. Snow was reasonably firm, though we post-holed occasionally. Warm rain predicted for the coming week, which should degrade trail conditions significantly. Great to be back on Cube, though, to watch the interplay of sun and shadow as rain curtains blew in from the west. |
