Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Percy Peak, South Percy Peak, NH
Trails
Trails: Percy Peaks Trail, Percy Loop Trail, South Percy Spur, Old Summer Club Trail, road walk
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, May 29, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is an old sign for Nash Stream off 110 but only for cars heading towards Groveton. It's better to just look for the Emerson road sign. After that there are signs to get to Nash Stream. The access road is a pretty good gravel road now. There is room for a modest number of cars parked nose in, but more can park along the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No significant streams.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were a couple of new significant blowdowns on Percy Peaks, Percy Loop and the South Peak spur. There is now a sign for South Peak visible from Old Summer Club where they intersect.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper found some small drainages in the lower sections but there isn't much up high. The ledges are open to the sun; bring water. The trail paths are paw friendly. Pepper got to meet Eva and Ella, two very sweet and energetic yellow labs, who were having a grand time.
Bugs
Bugs: There were some black flies that were most annoying on the summits. There wasn't much wind in the am to help keep them away.

Comments
Comments: It was a splendid day for this hike. The trails are easy hiking, the ledges are fun (when the path is dry, and they were today), and the views are wonderful. We met Donna and her joyful two labs, and one other hiker. Otherwise the remote and beautiful Nash Stream area was indeed that. There is some new blowdown that is forcing hikers to go around it, and it will take an axe or large saw to remove most of it. But these trails are so much nicer than the crowded and eroded ones that dominate favorite routes to the 4Ks.
