Comments: Parker Mountain (Mica Mine / 1946 Plane Crash Site)

The day started out with getting a big snapping turtle off of RT 102 on the way to the mountain. Our good deed for the day, she'll live to try crossing another day. :)
We wanted to stay local as there was storm predicted for the afternoon. We parked at the trailhead and headed down to the old Mica Mine first. We located what looked like an old road heading straight to the mine. The road/trail/herdpath had a couple blowdowns, but they were easy enough to get around and it was mostly dry.
The Spencer Smith trail started out somewhat flat, but it wasn't long before the UP started. I believe it is only 600' of elevation and trail to the summit is not that long...so yeah it seems steep. LOL
The day started out very humid, so we decided to leave the rain gear in the car even though we knew rain was headed our way. About 0.3 miles from the summit the skies opened up and poured. That made for a lot of water on the trail. We aborted going out to the Bow Lake viewpoint and decided to look for the plane wreckage.
Getting there was a little tricky with the on and off rain. It is a steep bushwhack down the northern slope. There are 3 areas that contain the wreckage that we saw. It started to rain on us again, so we bushwhacked back out and back down the Spencer Smith Trail.
We did post a video for anyone interested in seeing the trail condition or the hike. Just follow the link...
