Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Access road is a bit rough for cars but okay going slow. Take the first lip at an angle if low clearance. Parking area somewhat limited but parking on Rt. 2 was also available.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All blowdowns sawed. A few muddy places but not bad. Basically, trails in good shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is a dry trail and my main reason for posting. Just before the trailhead there is a brook readily available and the mighty tough little dog thoroughly enjoyed a post hike dip in it. Towels for the seats then become a good idea. But other than a few muddy mini drainages early on the trail is dry so I suggest bringing water when it's warm out, to drink and to soak doggie's back. Pepper wanted both. For the most part the trail is shaded.
Bugs
Bugs: 1 black fly and 1 skeeter at the top; both have been recycled.

Comments
Comments: Met 4 people on way up, and 3 on way down. But for a July 4th weekend, it was surprisingly quiet. Then again, we didn't meet many on Cannon Saturday either. 78F at top with a bit of a breeze. Humidity not too bad although the view south from the lookout a short ways past Waumbek was very hazy. This is a great trail for a quick hike to beat the heat especially when views anywhere are limited by haze. What a great long weekend for summer hiking.
