Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Hard to find the gate 2.2 miles from beginning of Lime Kiln Rd - gate is kind of hidden and looks like a driveway. Sign says foot traffic is welcome. From there, I walked .1 mi to a garage and turned right on an old road - seemed like it was someone's yard, especially when I woke up 4 pigs in a pigpen - they started squealing really loudly - I was careful to tiptoe past them on the return as they were sleeping.

Comments: Benton Sugarloaf Mtn attempt

This trail has been closed for some time. Trail marker still in place off woods road as described in 26th White Mountain Guide. At the brook (at .7 mi from gate) there is a faded sign nailed high in a tree. From there I took the trail but it soon disappeared in a logging area which is now covered in raspberry bushes. I never got as far as the old apple orchard.

I wanted to check out the start of this trail to see what it was like, knowing that the rope and ladders for the steep sections had been removed. I was at least hoping I would get to the steeps. I tried several herd paths that petered out, as well as some flagging. I just got totally lost in the overgrown prickers, raspberries, and slash. Unfortunately, this trail looks like it really is gone. I will attempt to bushwhack from another direction in the future.
