Comments: Set out on a beautiful day to explore some abandoned trails for variety. Started up Fairy Spring to Smith Summit where the going was slow due to the abundance of plump blueberries along the open ledges. I wanted to see if there was a route to the foot of the Black Precipice, so I followed a ledgey path to the right off Smith Summit not far above the Tooth. Sure enough it led right to the foot of the cliff where I found an old trail sign (<- Smith Summit / White Arrow ->). The foot of the cliff was not very interesting since it was quite overgrown, so I continued on the path across to White Arrow which I followed up a short distance to Amphitheater and so across the Black Precipice and back onto Smith Summit to the top.

The summit was cooler and breezy with a seemingly unsupervised group of ~50 kids who could be heard from 1/2 mile away. After a short break, I followed White Arrow down to Side Foot to the junction with Smith Connecting. After following this ~50 yards toward Bald Peak, I turned left on what I believe is the old Dingle Dell trail. This led down into the dell before climbing steeply up the east side of Bald Peak, emerging behind the prominent rock marked as Kiasticuticus Peak. The trail was straightforward to follow absent trail markings (except for 1 cairn) by the crampon scratches on rocks and ledges. The final ascent included several fine outlooks over the dell.

From Bald Peak, I took the Cliff Walk down to Point Suprise trail and out.
