Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lime Kiln Road is fine; it is a dirt road, but no mud or any other issues. Small parking lot in good condition. It was full, a school bus was there. We parked on the side of the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few little streams right at the beginning.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good. Trail is marked by yellow blazes. One question, though. It seemed (unless I was confused) that at one point there was a yellow blaze that lead one off the trail to a ledge with good views. I thought that was the trail, but quickly realized it was not going any further. When I back tracked I saw the trail continuing up. This area was near the blue blaze marking the state forest boundary.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several enjoying their day. Make sure you have enough water for them and watch them on the ledges!
Bugs
Bugs: A few. Prema got a mosquito bite.

Comments
Comments: What a great place! Although about half of this hike was steep, the footing is very gentle - you are walking on soft beautiful needles, not clusters of boulders. A good portion of this was a Red Pine forest, what beautiful trees these are! About halfway up you get your first view, and there are much more to come. A camp group was there with about 30 kids, who we met on their way down. Very polite and respectful of both other hikers and the environment. Since we had a midday start, we had the summit to ourselves. Great views all around, including Moosilauke.

Only one negative thing. Someone had camped out and had a fire near the summit. Not that this was wrong in and of itself, but they left their trash in their fire pit - beer bottles, other bottles, broken glass. Unfortunately, we did not bring along a bag to put it in, otherwise we would have done so (so now I'll go and out some bags in my pack!).
