| Water Crossing Notes: |
First two crossings, the wider ones, were OK as long as we were careful about the rocks we chose. At one of them (where the tree is down over the brook) we went upstream going over because the banking is quite eroded. Crossed close to the tree on the way back and that was fine. |

| Comments: |
Ice floes in trail appeared part way up from the Attitash Trail intersection, about where the birches disappeared. There were also patches of rock with black ice and powdery snow on them that were pretty slippery. Worked around ice and slippery rock on the lower section, finally put on microspikes, took them off for a bit, and put back on. Just below the summit on a steep ledgy pitch it was completely covered with ice, and while we could probably have gotten up OK with spikes I did not want to chance it for the descent. I was playing it safe due to a severely bruised knee a week ago falling on Champney Brook Trail, braver folks with sharper newer spikes would probably have been fine! Kept the spikes on all the way down until past all the ice. Cold, windy day but nice to be out - water was freezing in sipper tube all day! |
