Comments
Comments: Prema made it, I did not. There were a few difficult steep sections. Not enough snow on those to get traction with my snowshoes. The Hillsounds were in the car, but I don't know if even they would have helped. The steep rocks 20 feet from the summit had nothing for me to dig into with more traction, either. The trees on either side were too thick for me to go in and bushwhack up. Some how Prema dragged herself up and was treated to great views.

Since there is a new parking lot at the end of Randolph Hill Road, there is also a new path (and that's its name as well)which takes you up to join the Mt. Crescent Trail. Then it levels out for a bit (nice open woods walk). Snow was not too deep, there was evidence of barebooting on the New Trail, Prema smoothed it out with her snow shoes. The Mt. Crescent Trail had already been tracked out and it was a pleasant walk. However, when we came to the loop (Cresent Ridge to the left, Mt. Crescent Trail on the right) the difficulties began. The relatively flat open woods walk became a steep climb through evergreens that were very pretty. A few steep areas were anything but pretty - not much to hold on to with snow shoes. It was frustrating to stop short 20 feet from the top (Prema is 35-40 lbs lighter than me and has longer legs, this made all the difference). But the Crescent area is rumored to have great wild flowers and we'd like to see the other trails as well, so we'll be back! If anyone decides to go in the near future, don't be like me, bring ALL your traction.
