trail was broken out by a mix of snowshoes and bareboots. mostly packed out down low, but increasingly less so up high where there was more snow and some drifting. once up on the summit ridge the snowshoeing was actually quite nice. minimal ice exposed in a couple of places, but snow is covering and adhering for the most part. i contiued on the short side path to the other ledges below the summit which arguably have a better view of the sandwich range than does the highpoint and adds in a nice view to the ossipees.
owing to a last minute mid day commitment this proved to be a good early morning hike. cold start, but significantly warmer a couple hours later. views were very nice and decidedly wintry this morning.
