Traction is definitely required for the Champney Falls Trail. There are several trail sections with either water ice or compressed ice. I wore full crampons and had no difficulty. My companion wore 1/2" microspikes which worked ok overall except in one spot where he pushed them a little too hard and fell down (he was not injured). Would not recommend wearing older Katoola 3/8" microspikes or stabilizers. Trail is all packed out so snowshoes are not needed. Most of the yellow blazes are visible above treeline. Summit was pretty windy today. |
