Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two crossings along washed out portions of Flume Brook where the trail was washed out were well ice bridged. Once we descended the former Flume Brook Tr., got down to the Mad River and had to cross over back to the Greeley Pond Trail, we found a combination of ice and rocks about 40' downstream of the bridge foundations.

Comments
Comments: With the cold and wind today, this was a nice 9 mile loop to undertake, as it was largely protected. As a few of us are redlining, we opted to explore the former trails (lower section of the former Scaur Tr. and the length of the Flume Brook Tr.), which were easy to follow. We began our hike in light traction. Hillsounds might be a better choice than Microspikes, as there was ice in sections. Above the Flume, we used snowshoes, as we did as we explored down along the Flume Brook. Seeing the large washed out areas gave evidence as to why this trail will never be reopened.

Nice day out with Steve, Karen & Ken R., and Sandy.
