The original plan was to head north today, but the cold and wind chills in the forecast didn't appeal to this old man, so I opted for two shorter hikes closer to home. The second was a loop up and over Pack Monadnock. After hiking Burton Peak, I drove down the street to the Miller State Park lot and headed up the Wapack. Several large, thick ice bulges on the lower portion of this trail, but nothing difficult. Both trails were well packed solid sidewalks all the way. Snowshoes not needed. No real wind to speak of, so I hung out in the shelter for a while finishing up my thermos of tea. Snow showers started as I left the summit and continued all the way down to the car, very pleasant. :) |
