Comments
Comments: Jewell Trail was ice with a thin layer of snow or packed snow for the first section. Nearer to treeline snow and drifting increases with some postholes. Gulfside a mix of boilerplate ice, snow and rock all the way to from where we picked it up on the side of Clay to the hut. Valley Way easy in the first section of descending to the tent platforms, mostly just packed snow. Mix of snow and iceflows for the remainder. Temperatures were warm enough to where the ice was soft and easily managed in micros. We wore microspikes/Hillsounds from the beginning until the steep descent from Jefferson, where we changed to crampons. Wore crampons until Thunderstorm junction, and went back to micros/Hillsounds for the remainder of the hike. Lots of ice, but a beautiful day to be above treeline with Schorman, Iron Mike and Guy J.
