Trails
Trails: Starr King Road, Starr King Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, March 7, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking lot itself is great, but right before it is a rut and some icy spots. I have a Corolla and I went down to the winter lot with it.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Little step overs, like Anthony mentioned yesterday. It's the ice that's the problem!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good! The only blowdown I remember right now is a duck under, no big problem.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw two huge Rottweilers, with their extremely responsible owners. Thank you! I hope your dogs enjoyed the rest of their hike. For those whose dogs do not do well on ice, I would stay away from here until conditions change.

Comments
Comments: I am writing this report with an ice bag on my knee. While trying to step off of an icy area on to the edge of the path, I slipped instead and twisted my knee. This was on the way out, so it didn't ruin our hike. The conditions were just like Anthony mentioned in yesterday's report. I would seriously take his advice if you are thinking of doing this hike. We had the snow and the fog, so we did not get the views. Once you pass the last icy area before the summit of Starr King you will not have this problem and can enjoy your hike to Waumbek.
