Bare boot with a bit of care up to the top of the ledges, Once the trail heads into the softwoods, its different beast, the trail is basically one big ice flow all the way to the upper ledges. Folks with Kahtoolas were either turning around or hiking in the woods, the last sharp right turn to the final switchback is technical. Many folks including myself backtracked and bushwhacked to skip it. I used Hillsound microspikes and they worked well going up but were useless heading down. I switched to Grivel crampsons and with some care they worked pretty well.
Looks like its time to stay low until we have warm enough weather to burn off the ice. |
