We went up the southern end of Baldface Cir Tr. It is mostly dry. Chandler Brook Tr had a lot of leaves in the trail heading down to the gorge. We encountered a bear roughly .5 miles below the lean-to. Another hiker said he also saw a bear around the same area about 2 weeks prior, so it looks like there is a local bear hanging out near the trail. We had no issues with the bear. The cliffs after the lean-to had a some wet spots early on but the majority of the trail was dry. No ice encountered heading up to S. Baldface. We did encounter some ice between South and North Baldface but managed to go around it. We did encounter a more significant amount of ice between North Baldface and the junction of Baldface Cir Tr and Bicknell Ridge Tr. We managed to bareboot around it, but this would be the most likely place to use microspikes. Bicknell Ridge Tr was clear of ice. |
