Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings on the York Pond Trail were rock hoppable in most cases. I had to wade across the last crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of downed trees until I got to Waumbek. Most of them were sawed apart and/or can be walked around (or under, or over), but there was a spot between Middle Weeks and South Weeks that took some work for me to figure out.

Dog-Related Notes: I would think Starr King and Waumbek would be fine for dogs.

Comments
Comments: Started at the York Pond Trailhead and worked my way to the Starr King Trailhead. The river crossings on the York Pond Trail weren't too bad. Most of the trail was wet with spots of mud. I didn't encounter ice and snow until the junction with the Killkenny Ridge Trail. There were sections of ice and sections of dry trail, and it wasn't really necessary to put microspikes on until I was about 1/2 mile from North Weeks. Heading down North Weeks was dry (no spikes), but heading up Middle Weeks was icy (spikes back on). Same story when going down and up to South Weeks. Middle Weeks to South Weeks to Waumbek had a lot of downed trees. The summits of Waumbek and Starr King were dry, but the trail between them still has some snow and ice. There are some unavoidable icy spots near the top Starr King, but eventually I reached a point where the trail was bone dry all the way to the trailhead.

My original intention was to go to South Weeks and then head back to my car (NEHH 61 and 62). Apparently I wasn't heading back in the right direction and ended up on Waumbek. Instead of turning around, I just kept going. Kudos to the ladies at the Old Corner Store (the Irving station) for working out a way to get me back to my car, because I only saw three other hikers all day and they were heading up Starr King as I was going down it.
