Comments
Comments: What a gambit of conditions! Leaving from the parking lot next to Saco Lake, the trail quickly turned into a thick muddy slosh (pretty fun, just watch out for low cut trail runners, might get one stuck in the mud!). After the junction at 1.4mi ice became present just after Silver Cascade and continued until the summit. The trail had significant ice flows starting about 0.5mi from summit and while the snow was soft enough for microspikes, extreme caution was used in the descent. about. 0.3mi from summit, ice flows were intermittently replaced with snow monorails (some of which were unstable). Upon summiting, I continued down the ridge and walked the cliff trail until the last outlook before the descent which was dry and rocky mixed with some ice in the cols between cliffs and there was a lot of taking on/removing of the microspikes. I'd recommend micros for the way up and something more substantial like hillsounds for the descent down Webster-Jackson trail towards the highland center. Happy trails!
