Mine Hill, Mount Wallingford, Mount Dearborn (Weare high points)
Two spot elevations for Mine and Dearborn read elevation 1211' and Wallingford has 1210 contour, all three bumps are near one another. The north side of Maplewold Road has a lot of houses and a spattering of No Hunting/No Trespassing signs. My Weare resident hiking companion knew a few of these folks but we didn't bother anyone.
Mine Hill has a communications tower with a gated paved road and a no trespassing sign. Just East of the cemetery and on north side of road there is a stonewall that runs right up to the col between these two bumps and two homes and there are a few woods roads/maybe snowmobile trails in there too. Easy open woods to both summits. Metal deer tree stand on tree near Wallingford's summit and two big towers on Mine Hill and no views.
From the cemetery we headed south and shortly we were passing markers noting that this was land protected by Piscataquog Land Conservancy and we went right up the ridge to Dearborn's summit. We enjoyed more nice open woods with some obstructed views thanks to no leaves on the trees. Dearborn's summit has a very tall ruin of a tree stand that was quite impressive. This was a fun long lunch hour, thanks Lynda! |
