Comments
Comments: a great early morning hike before the day heated up, with worthwhile views of the White Mountains from Mt. Shaw and birds eye views of Lake Winnipesaukee from Black Snout. I went up Shaw Trail and down Big Ball Mountain trail. When you are at summit of Black Snout watch for small rock pile and blue paint that marks start of Big Ball trail, follow blue paint until you see handwritten sign for Route 171 at start of Italian Trail, not far from Tate Mt. summit. Follow red/green paint for Italian Trail (makes sense doesn't it!). It leads you back to Shaw Trail.
There is nice water flow in Fields Brook creating scenic cascades and small waterfalls.
