Comments
Comments: Seems like we have been trying to hike Magalloway for a long time and today was the day, a good family outing to celebrate Eva's 4th birthday. Magalloway Road was in good shape, no trouble getting to the trailhead and we were the only car in the parking lot in the morning. There are no signs or blazes at the parking lot; we just headed up the old jeep road, ascending via the Coot Trail which was rocky and eroded and quite muddy at first, the ground having recently thawed, some ice patches remaining-though certainly no traction needed. Trail rises steeply to the fire tower in under a mile. Great summit-we loved being up in the fire tower with a slight breeze to blow the black flies away, outstanding views in all directions. Explored the Overlook Trail-great views to the north and east. Ledges drop away steeply at several spots so put the dogs on leashes. Enjoyed our lunch at one of the overlooks. We descended on the Bobcat Trail which we like a lot more than Coot; it's much more of a trail, has one overlook, and is very pleasant. A few blowdowns on Bobcat, one significant one. A great family outing with Wally, Ella, and Eva our birthday Lab.
