Comments
Comments: Going up Webster Cliff Tr was nice. Steep ascent but rewarded with ledge views below Mt Webster. Made quick time going from Webster to Mizpah Hut. Mt Clinton Tr from Mizpah Hut to Dry River Cutoff is fine. Below Dry River Cutoff, not so much. The blowdowns are annoying. A few occasions where the trail and a stream are the same, along with mossy rocks in those segments of trails. There are multiple river crossings, the AMC book says 7, and most of them have tiny red flagging installed to help in locating the trail on the other side. The further down the trail, the worst it seem to get. There was one area that the trail entered a small wooded bog, and I was unsure if it kept going through the area or skirt around the side. Turns out it went around the side. There was another spot where the trail was on the side of an embankment, and I missed the spot where it went down and continued along the embankment, because it still looked like the trail. Then it fizzled out a few hundred feet beyond. On the lower half of the trail, the trail corridor is much more overgrown. There was an attempt by somebody to install a lot of flagging on the lower half, but it seems like they focused on the easier parts to follow (well worn trail despite hobblebush all over the trail) and not the parts that involved turns in the trail where things are slightly more open. There were several places that I was just looking around for where the trail might continue. Mt Clinton Tr was a muddy trail with numerous places where you are left looking for a trail. The flagging and random cairns are helpful, but don't rely on it to heavily as it will be missing in key areas of confusion. Dry River Tr was easy to follow. Saco River Tr was easy to follow. A ton of blue blazes. I wish some of them could be transferred over to Mt Clinton Tr.
